Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. One such club is SDMCET Toastmasters Club, installed in our college in 2018. Since the inception we have had more than 75+ active rolling members. Extempore is a speech given without any prior preparation. Instantaneous thinking, analysis of the topic, identification of the issue, idea generation, prioritizing the sequence of logical points, ability to connect with the audience, communication and overall presentation become some of the very important parts of extempore. In common language, this is also called as ‘Pick-n-Speak’.

• Participants are not permitted to talk about sex, religion or politics. Even if they must, please remember not to hurt anyone’s sentiments.
• Each contestant will be given a topic to speak about on the spot.
• Participants will be given 30 seconds of time to think and capitulate points before coming on stage.
• Speech will be timed. Participants are advised to speak for a minimum of 1 minute, and a maximum of 2 minutes.
• A timer will display a green card on completion of 1 minute. A yellow card will be displayed at 90 seconds and a red card will be displayed at the end of 2 minutes.
• Participants will be given additional 30 seconds after red card, to conclude their speech.
• Participants that speak less than 1 minute or more than 2min 30 sec, will be deemed as disqualified.
• Participants will not be permitted to make use of mobile phones or any electronic gadgets during their speech.
